Here is some information about Mr. Higgins and the organization:

"In 2006, Thomas Hintze, co-owner of a language training institute back then, launched the first English Summer Camps in the Nuremberg area as day camps during German school holiday seasons. The Camps have been expanding ever since, and they have seen several thousand kids over the last 12 years, many of them returning year after year. The purpose of the camp is to create an English speaking environment without having to send the kids overseas, so that the kids are able to enjoy the language just a few minutes away from their homes. Thomas, who left his company in 2016 to launch a new company specializing in English Camps for Kids, is known to the children as “Mr. Higgins”. He recruits native English speakers from all over the world.”

She lives in Bavaria, Burgundy and Greece with her German husband and family.

Louis "Satchmo" Armstrong was perhaps the most famous jazz trumpeter and singer ever to grace the world stage. Ella Fitzgerald, the "First Lady of Song" was an American jazz vocalist known for her impeccable diction, phrasing and a "horn-like" improvisational ability. These two great artist teamed together to produce 3 best selling albums which were held as the pinnacle of popular singing.

Using music and mimic, scat and sketches and humor and charm Willetta Carson's and Troy Anderson's goal is to bring Louis and Ella back to life on stage again. With stylistic duets and solo performances they intend to capture both the personality and the musicality of these two great jazz legends and the imagination of their audiences. IWG, in cooperation with the FIS, will be offering a dance course for couples to prepare themselves for the upcoming Valentine's Dance on February 15th 2014.

When: Friday evening, 4 x 90 minutes, begin January 10^th, 20:00 – 21:30 (or other time).

Where: In the FIS, Marie Curie Str. 2, 91054 Erlangen

Minimum 8 couples: 49 € per person.

Including 4 of the most popular dances and a training on “how do I look good while I dance” – tips and tricks before, during and after the dance.

Good Morning,

The Herzo Quilting Bee is making the heart shaped pillows to be given to breast cancer patients in Erlangen for women and men.

I have helped to make these pillows for the past 3 years in honor of family members and friends who have or had the disease.

It is a wonderful way to spend 30 minutes, an hour or the entire morning helping and you can practice speaking German!......Or help others practice speaking English.

You can help fill / stuff the pillows or if you are talented sew them shut using a special stitch so that it does not irritate the suture line of the post-op patient as the "hug" the pillow for support.

Or Make Us German, because it's the Rowlatt family who are after Germanisation. Justin, Bee and their two youngest are leaving north London to live in a flat in Nuremberg for a while, in order to understand what it means to be German, particularly when it comes to being successful.

Women in Germany
Also not so good news, surprisingly. Booooo! Women are encouraged – by kindergarten timetables, by society, by language even (the German phrase for working women translates as raven mothers, because they abandon their children) – to stay at home to cook and clean, for more than four hours a day! The hausfrau is alive and well. And Bee's not happy about it. Go girl ... erm, go woman?

The Canadian soprano Leah Gordon will continue our recital series. She invites you on a journey through the many faces of love from youthful desire, to one-night-stands, cheating spouses, divorce, realizing your husband's a stranger to the loss of love through death. The program features selections from William Bolcom's “Cabaret Songs” and “Minicabs” with prominent contemporary composers of the American musical theater. Experience stories that will leave you both laughing and crying!

Die Sopranistin Leah Gordon ist seit 2008 als Solistin am Staatstheater Nürnberg engagiert. Sie begann ihre Ausbildung an der Universität Toronto und schloss diese 2005 mit dem Master of Music in Performance an der Guildhall School of Music und Drama in London ab. Sie gastierte am Aalto-Theater Essen, an den Wuppertaler Bühnen, am Deutschen Nationaltheater in Weimar sowie am Mainfranken Theater Würzburg.

Der Pianist Michael Ashton arbeitete 17 Jahre als musikalischer Leiter und Dirigent in San Francisco. Später arbeitete er als Korrepetitor und Pianist für diverse Musicals wie z.B. „Bye George“, “It’s Gillian“ oder „La Cage aux Folles“. Derzeit ist er u.a. Hauptkorrepetitor für "Cats" im Operettenhaus und an der Stage School Hamburg.

Reading Corner for Children

In January, the DAI will begin hosting a children’s reading corner once a month. A native English speaker will read aloud from classic children’s books and there will be activities to go along with that day’s story. This is a great opportunity for children of all ages to listen to a native speaker, interact with other children, and discover some great books from our library. We offer one morning a month for younger children and one afternoon a month for school children.

Age 0-6: 10.30-11.15am
Age 6-12: 3-4 pm
Wednesdays: 20.3./ 17.4./ 15.5./ 19.6./ 17.7.

We are a Swedish-German couple with two children at the age of 6 (soon) and 8.
Our children were attending the International School in Helsingborg in Sweden and they are fluent in English.
As we have recently returned to Erlangen, we are in search of a native English speaker who could look after our children on Thursday and possibly also Friday afternoons, i.e. from around 3.30 p.m. until we are back from work (around 5.30 p.m. or earlier; times may vary).

We are thinking of an older pupil or a student or maybe a spouse of an expatriate working in the Erlangen/Nuernberg/Herzogenaurach area who would fetch the children from school / Kindergarten and come to our house for a couple of hours (no car required, school and kindergarten are at walking distance from our house).

We live in Erlangen-Tennenlohe, i.e. between Nuremberg-North and Erlangen. (Tennenlohe can easily reached by bus from both Erlangen and Nuernberg.)

Susie is a British psychotherapist, psychoanalyst, writer and social critic.

Her books include Hunger Strike, What's Really Going on Here?, Towards Emotional Literacy, Susie Orbach On Eating and The Impossibility of Sex. She lectures widely in the UK, Europe and North America, has written for several magazines and newspapers, and has provided consultation advice for organisations like the NHS, the World Bank and Unilever and was co-originator of the Dove Campaign for Real Beauty.. She continues to help many individuals and couples from her practice in London. She is also a visiting Professor at the London School of Economics.

With Luise Eichenbaum, Orbach created the Women’s Therapy Centre in 1976 and the Women’s Therapy Centre Institute, a training institute in New York, in 1981. She has been a consultant for The World Bank, the NHS and Unilever and was co-originator of the Dove Campaign for Real Beauty.

Orbach has a clinical practice and sees both individuals and couples in London.

The service will mostly be conducted in English and German with Spanish and French are also being spoken.
And to make the church service lively, the international singing group, "HerzoSingers", will be performing and hopefully we will get to sing along with them!

The foreigners office of the city of Erlangen is organising an international festival with the theme " Mediterranean Life and Culture " this year in the Heinrich Lades Halle, Erlangen.
All international clubs and organisations in and around Erlangen are present at this festival and IWG too would be present here.
